University networks in the region unanimously endorsed the CRES 2018
Committed to a more equitable and inclusive society in the region, the present actors, representing 15 member states, reaffirmed the strategic role of the higher education in the 21st century society: "Higher education is a strategic social public good, fundamental to the exercise of the human right to knowledge. It is a duty of the State to ensure this right and guarantee its exercise (...) because it deepens democracy and makes it possible to overcome inequities", according to the document gathered at the close of the Meeting.

Research and sustainable development debates opened the VIII Meeting of University Networks

The delegates that attended UNESCO-IESALC's call represented 996 higher education institutions –universities and the tertiary sector- from the region, in order to dialogue around the thematic axes of the III Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES) that will be held in Cordoba, Argentina, in June 2018.

The thematic axes that have been analyzed are related to research and sustainable development; quality assurance; innovation; sciences and technology; internationalization and regional integration, social challenges for a regional higher education with an inclusive perspective; and governability. The work teams will act as an opinion group in order to propose recommendations what will be taken into account in the declaration that will be presented as official document during the closing ceremony. These proposals will be considered to the creation of the thematic composition of the CRES 2018.

We continue to build the CRES 2018 through its virtual forums

Within the framework of the preconference activities of the Third Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES 2018), UNESCO's International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO-IESALC), in collaboration with the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC), activated the sixth cycle of discussion of the CRES virtual forums from September 11 to September 22, aiming to facilitate the exchange of ideas and opinions on higher education systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Meeting to strengthen ties between public and private higher education in Brazil

UNESCO´s International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO-IESALC) participated on August 17th and 18th 2017 in the I Congress of Public Policies for Latin America: the role of the private higher education in the development of effective actions, in São Paulo, Brazil.
